The Design Having chosen fabrics and style the design is sketched for the bride and measurements taken to make up a toile for the first fitting. A toile is a calico version of the gown and it is from this pattern that the silk gown is created. There are usually a minimum of four fittings during which the gown evolves and the brides involvement is encouraged throughout.
